先月の3月20日にYouTubeをアップしました。
「火葬場が消える」ということはどういうことか。
火葬場が消えることは昨日、今日に始まったことではない。
3月31日に廃止されたのが山口県柳井市の老朽化した火葬場である。
それ以外にも数多くある。
実際、厚生労働省の情報を調べたら1988年には1900箇所くらいあった火葬場が統廃合のために現在1404。
柳井市のを引いて1403箇所。
場所によっては年間←年間ですよ！ 10件くらいしか稼働しないところもあったと。
ただ、亡くなっていく（統廃合）されるのではないことを一言付け足しておきたい。
実際、他のところで炉を増設していたりして対応もしている。
柳井市の場合はすでに別のところを用意していて、他の自治体もそこを利用している。
しかし、火葬場の運営がどれだけ市の財政負担か想像して欲しい。
きれいなところでないと、どこに建設しても反対運動がある。
それどころか「煙が出ない炉」といえども・・・今は煙がでませんけど。

On March 20th, I posted a YouTube video on crematoriums being decommissioned.
In Japan, where more people are dying each year, we have a shortage of both crematoriums and burials (graveyards) to place bones (not ashes in Japan).
What does this mean?
In 1988, there were 1900 crematoriums in operation but now, there are only 1404, minus 1 that ended life in Yanai city in Yamaguchi prefecture, which ends up as 1403 in action.
Yanai has only 30,000 people living. Do they really need another crematorium?
Last year, there were total of 1.44 million deaths in Japan.
The death rate in Japan is a bit over 1% of the total population.
There are 120 million people with 1.44 million deaths, which calculates as approximately 1.2%.
Many crematoriums (both municipal operation and private operation) have been build many years ago and it’s like a nuclear reactor that parts are exchanged to keep up the wear and tear. But in some cases, they need to decommission the whole venue.
The cost of operating the crematorium is not cheap.
In order to build one, you need to first talk with the people living there and get their understanding so that no opposition will rise.
Then, building the smoke-free furnace is no light task.
You need accomodations for many families to come and require lot of hospitality to take care.
Who provide all this under what budget?
